Another libero replacement sitch
In today's NCAA match, the normal pattern was that when #3 rotated back to serve, the libero would come in to serve for her. However, in this particular situation, the coach decided to sub #2 for #3 and let #2 serve. They eventually lose the rally and THEN the coach sends the libero in.
When the libero rotates around to the front row -- you guessed it -- #3 returns to the court. Before I can get my R2 to come over to talk about it, that team's coach asks for and is granted a TO. During the TO, I talk to the R2 and tell him to make sure who is supposed to come back in for the libero.
When the team breaks the huddle, #2 is on the court and #3 is waiting in the sub zone. The coach has realized that the original replacement was incorrect.
But. . . the players on the floor when the TO is granted have to be the same players who take the floor AFTER the TO ends, correct? But. . . the wrong player returned to the court before the TO.
So. . . what SHOULD have happened? Should I have whistled to prevent the TO from being granted and fixed the improper replacement before starting the TO? Or am I over-thinking it and just let the coach fix it as she intended to?
