Test Question 4
Team A makes a substitution during the time-out. Once play resumes, it is discovered that A4 has replaced A7 illegally. The R2 should:
* A. Disallow the substitution, signal unnecessary delay, placing the appropriate card on the wrist of the offending team and pointing to Team A's side. * B. Signal unnecessary delay, placing the appropriate card on the wrist of the offending team and point to Team A's side, and then allow the substitution to take place. * C. Signal illegal substitution, followed by illegal alignment, place A7 back on the court, and award a loss of rally/point to Team B. * D. Signal illegal substitution, place A7 back on the court, and award a loss of rally/point to Team B. The substitution is denied until the next dead ball. It's either C or D, since it wasn't discovered until play resumes (prior to that it would be unnecessary delay -- right?). So, is A4 now restricted from entering until the next dead ball (answer D)? It seems to me that since the rally has ended that A4 can now enter legally. And, as a follow up (which may help with the above) -- how many (if any) substitutions do we charge to A? The illegal sub of A4 for A7? |

Your logic is sound on the answer.
Since there was no legal sub, there is no sub charged to correct the illegal sub. You would only charge a sub if they then wanted to sub A4 for A7 legally at this point.
