Defensive Conferences NCAA
Same inning, a Defensive coach calls time and comes out and talks to her pitcher, after a couple of pitches the catcher calls time and runs out to her pitcher. I can't find a rule that indicates the catcher should not be ejected? Though we have always allowed catcher or other teammates to temporarily delay a game without penalty. Am I missing something on the rule set?

6.10.4.3 A charged defensive conference begins when the game is delayed or suspended to deliver a message to the defense and ends when the team representative(s) enters dead-ball territory or the player returns to her position.

4.11 Team Representative A team representative is a member of the coaching staff (including volunteer and student coaches) or team manager. 6.10 Conferences A charged conference is a delay in the game granted by the umpire to allow team representatives or team representatives and players to confer. Has to be team representative in the meeting to have it count as a charged conference

I dont diagree, and I know Im reading to much into the wording when the conference ends, but why insert this into:
or the player returns to her position. Last edited by roadking; Sat Feb 28, 2015 at 04:37pm. |

Because a representative doesnt have to come out of the dugout for there to be a charged conference. If the catcher were to call time and go to the dugout to speak with the coach, it is a charged conference that ends when the catcher returns to her position.

And it may take quick thinking and preventative umpiring to avoid an administrative ejection if the catcher (or another defender) does this in an inning where the first charged conference has already been held...
