I think you mean ST Lawrence County - which is wayyyyyy upstate from me.

Basically wilderness with a few towns. I believe a chunk of it is in the Adirondack Park. Totally opposite country from what people think of when think 'New York'

The first thing you need to understand that anything that is not located in the five boroughs or in Nassau or Sussex County is considered "upstate" NY

You mean Suffolk County. Sussex County is in NJ, Delaware, and Australia.

'Upstate' in New York is all relative - I am upstate from LIUmp....my sister is Rochester is upstate from me...but St. Lawrence County is upstate from EVERYone in NY....

It is further north than Toronto in fact...

I'm originally from Syracuse and I lived in Ogdensburg for a year. Met MrsO, a Canadian from Prescott, 50 years ago. There are several towns in that area within a short distance: Potsdam and Canton even are college towns. If you need more information I may be able to help.
Yes-it is St.Lawrence County, think the river.

Just looking at the money end of it now. The opportunity is a definite maybe.....I have been looking at some things in the NW too. The winters do give me cause for pause though.....along with taxes.

And to all who noted, it is St. Lawrence County.

Mike....if your first wife was north of St. Lawrence, she must have been Canadian.

Taxes on just purchasing the property were too much. I should have known it was too good to be true.

Property taxes after the fact were also outrageous.......taxes on farm and ranchland here are cheap.

I would love to move to the NE.....but the Pacific NW is looking better and better.

You're telling me. When 1/2 of my mortgage payment goes to taxes and the other 1/2 goes to the actual purchase price of the house, the ratio doesn't look too good.

I was looking at purchasing the property outright.....but the taxes on the purchase and future taxes were too much. NY needs to do something to boost new people.....IJS.....

The same infrastructure and land purchase in Texas or Florida would have been about ten times less taxes.

Too bad, as I really liked the place......the sale price was right....it was the hoops to go through that was bad.

There is a similar place near Philly I am looking at and I made an offer....waiting on the HO to come back with a counter.....

I really like the NE.....but the NW is looking better and better......
