Where's the ball?

This is a picture posted on a Facebook entry advertising the 2012 ISSA schedule. I understand that there are other things happening on the field that draws an umpire's attention, but nothing so intent at a set position without the ball.

Can anyone think of what this could be? What has drawn your attention away from the ball that required more than a glance or passive observation?

It is slow pitch, which means it could be church ball.

Which means there could be an all-out melee on the field.

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

This was an extremely hard shot to left center field. BU in C is still watching for IP and has not yet had time to move from his "ready" position.

And airborne while already beginning his throwing motion.

I'd guess that the player is a 2nd baseman playing deep who went airborne to get a high one hopper. There is a runner on 1st base. Based upon the umpire's angle, he thinks that the force will go to 2nd base to retire R1.

With that's said, I would prefer to see the actual release of the ball before I start focusing on a base.

All that being said...

All that being said, I'm an evaluator in the small pond where I work and I can't believe how many guys (and gals) turn and set to look at where they think the play is going to be before the ball is even released....

Which I bet is the point of posting this photo.
