She knows how much softball means to me, and she knows that I may not always get these offers. Now that I'm NIF-qualified, I can afford to hold back and not take a National assignment.

Plus, on one of those birthdays, she did go to Boston for a conference and some sightseeing. She loved it.

And you know, it's funny you should mention the birthday depressions. When I was in college, I took Norwegian for a year to pay my respects to my grandfather.
Wouldn't it have been easier to send a card?

But back to your wife. What time of year would she have played ball when she was growing up?

I've met Dave's wife. Quite possibly, her season was different than ours since it was in a different hemisphere.

I have called many a tournament across my oldest daughter's birthday........early August.........she has always been cool with it........good daughters are hard to find......

I missed having her here this year. I moved her to AZ last year........maybe next year I can go back for her BD.......but it is frickin hot there........although, we just passed 40 days of over 100 for the summer.......It reached 107 under my carport on Sunday.......I was welding a ramp for a utility trailer and started getting light headed.........

Decided it was time to cool off and just sit down and drink a beer........I have not finished that ramp yet......but have finished quite a few beers since then.

We are only supposed to get to 98 or so today and maybe cooler tomorrow. Soon.......maybe.......

Despite the fact that she didn't grow up with softball anywhere near her, she's always been very supportive of my habit... I mean career.

Even when I told her I'd have to drop some serious cash on equipment to go to FP, she didn't have too big a problem with it.

She shouldn't. She's practically got a brand new kitchen and a new car out of the deal, so I think she came out ahead.

No, but seriously... She's very supportive of me as an umpire, and that's very helpful. She'll even come to my games every now and then. She doesn't understand everything, but she certainly tries and asks questions afterward.

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

It is nice to have supporters of the umpire in the stands. One of my HS partners wife never missed a game that he called.......I was always envious of him for that. My middle daughter used to come and see me umpire quite often........she lives about 60 miles away now and it has been a few years.......maybe after she graduates she might move back closer to home and can come again........I can only hope......

True, but it wouldn't have meant as much. My grandfather was actually quite an inspirational person who gave so much to the community during his lifetime. Truly a wonderful person, and I wanted to show him just what he meant to me. So, I learned our heritage's language.

BretMan's right... She's not exactly "local."

Born and raised in Argentina.
