ASA - Foul Bunt (FP)

Situation: 0-2 count on the batter. Batter squares to bunt. The pitch comes in a little high, and the batter begins to pull her bat back. However, in the process of pulling her bat back, the ball still strikes the bat and rolls foul to the fence.

Batter out or foul ball (not a bunt)?

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

If she is no longer attempting to bunt the ball, it can't be a bunt attempt.

I've got nothing but a foul ball here.

That's what I was thinking, too. To me, the intent must be present at the point at which the ball and bat made contact. If the batter was not intending to bunt at that time, it's no longer a bunt. It'd be the same as if she had never put the bat in front.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the matter. My first FP games are a week from this Saturday.

I will be in Rock Hill, the hottest place on earth, Death Valley is a dry heat, that doesn't count. I am hoping that they can cover the tourney without me, but I will probably end up working. I will be NCASA's question.

I'm gonna call BS on you. I know you well enough to know that you're not going to pass up an opportunity to get an out.

Kidding, though. I concur - foul ball.

The hottest place on earth is 90 miles south of Rock Hill. Columbia, SC sits in a bowl, the humidity pours into the bowl and it can't get out. The wind can't get down in there. The sun just heats the whole thing up.

There may be some truth to that....

In the message board world - Foul Ball

In the 10u rec league world - OUT!
