Wouldn't suprise me if DDB on leaving early passes. It would then quickly trickle down into ASA, NFHS, and other rules sets.

Personally, I feel as though the DDB on leaving the base early is tilting the advantage to the defense.

If a runner actually leaves early because of a misstep, or because of mistiming, why should you offer the defense a chance to make two outs, or more? It makes no sense. Punish the infraction and get on with it.

Why should the offense get the advantage from it's infraction when the batter hits an easy double play ball on a pitch where the runner left early?

What advantage would the offense get? If you want to take that mentality, maybe INT should be a DDB, also. For that matter, let's make everything a DDB just in case. Oooopppss, forgot this

Personally, I understand why they are looking at this as a possible change, but I honestly believe that will just provide that much more confusion and an increase in the coach's BS meter trying to talk umpires into a load of crap rulings, even at the college level.

Under the current rule, how will the offense get any advantage, or for that matter even be able hit the ball??? The current rule states that when the runner leaves early, it is a no pitch (nothing else can happen, dead ball...etc.) and the runner is out. That seems more than enough punishment for the infraction, at least to me.
