Coed Slow pitch Question

In our coed league a Women uses a 11 inch ball and Guys use a 12 inch ball. We have a girl that wants to use a 12 inch ball. Is that legal? What does ASA say about that. I could not find anything in the rule book about it.

It's not legal. Use the 11 inch ball.

I agree on the 11" ball as well. Liability being my reason, just imagine if she or someone else gets hurt in any way shape or form. You will be on the hool ;rgally. The injury may not be related to the ball but you can bet that will be used against you to claim neglect on your part. Too much of a slippery slope.

It is all fun and games until someone gets hurt or angry. Just my opinion.

And actually, because it's the rule, unless overriden by league rule.

I believe it's even been suggested that both genders in coed use the same 12" ball, but that's been voted down every time. If a 12-year old girl can use a 12" ball in fast pitch, why can't a 21-year old woman in slow pitch?

I understand where this player is coming from, but it's simply not an option. If local rules want to supersede this, that's their right, but regular ASA rules do not allow it.

It don't believe this to be an issue of whether or not a 21-year-old woman can hit a 12" ball. This has more to do with making the men and women's batted balls act more similar to each other.

Didn't Crystl Bustos hit one over the men's fence in Hall of Fame Stadium?

I don't think the difference is as great as everyone thinks.

Let's see, Crystyl Bustos, typical co-rec female. Yup, looks like a match!

This is true, though I'm only aware of it happening once and the women just beat the crap out of the guy proposing it in committee. Of course, it it seemed to be (and I'm going to get beat up on this one) an ego thing, yet in ISF and all other co-rec with which I am familiar, everyone hits the 12" ball ....and not poorly.

I wonder if the safety and equipment committee would consider doing tests on just how much advantage is really gained by letting women hit an 11" ball.

Not unless there is a safety issue.

Is it the "Equipment Safety Committee" or the "Safety and Equipment Committee?" I always get the name mixed up.

Pretty sure it is Equipment Testing and Certification Committee, but they are not going to do anything that doesn't involve safety or licensing.

I'll make a note of it. I'm bound to screw up a long name like that.

So is there anyone within ASA who would do such testing? Or would it have to be outside?

This is purely for my own curiosity.
