Please not another pissing match between BB and SB..............
They are different games played under different rules. It is standard in NCAA or ASA Fast Pitch mechanics to verbalize the call and then mechanically make the call....... It has been done that way.......forever....... The speed that those calls are made are up to the individual umpire........ Rich.......I saw no issues in the speed of their calls........ I have issue with many volleyball, soccer, and basketball calls every year.......and I even officiate a couple.......but don't question those calls. Why.....because I am another official....... Joel PS Hugo....sorry I piggy backed on your thread |

The verbal is to notify those participants in the general area of play of the call. It is made in a timely fashion.
Don't know of any umpire that doesn't offer a verbal "strike" and in most cases "ball" call that cannot be heard by everyone in the infield and dugout. The signal is for the spectators and players not in the general vicinity of the play that do not need this information in a timely fashion to make an immediate subsequent decision.
