Umpire bag sale

I've been contimplating getting a big Diamond bag all Summer. I've been carrying all my crap in a couple sports bags since I started umpiring - one for the gear and one for the clothes. I was ready to caugh up the $160 for the Diamong bag till this weekend's camp. One of the guys had a bag from Pro-Nine that looked dead on the Diamond bag. I asked him about it - $59.00!! He got it from Pronine.com 's close out section. There is something in there about being factory seconds but I looked at his bag and it looked pretty good to me. The web site has a 1800 number you can call. The shipping is high because the bag is so big but I got mine today shipping and all for $84.00.

I'm not getting anything from Pro-Nine for this plug, unless they offer me something , just thought I'd give a heads up for those who might need a bag.

Secondary head's up. It may not matter to you, but this bag is classified as oversize by airlines. If you ever fly to umpire, you need to stay with a 30" x 15" x 16" (combined total may not exceed 62", which the 36" bag does) to avoid paying significant extra charges.

Just as an example, Delta charges $175 EACH WAY to check this bag, and of course, it cannot be a carry-on.

I don't know what the Diamond is like, but I recently got a Samsonite 36" bag that can fit half of Ohio in it. It has the zippered lower compartment, then is a duffel up top with 3 pouches that go into the main compartment. You can use the pouches or the space in the main compartment -- which works great for dirty clothes, shoes, even hats.

I use the bag for football, and its probably a bit big for that, but the smaller one didn't have the split bottom. Very similar to this, but maybe an older version. I got mine at the Samsonite Outlet, so if you have one near, check that.

The $59.00 Pronine bag looks like a great bargain to me. Just picked up 2 yesterday. They are located in Garden Grove, CA. so we did not have to pay shipping.

The handle was originally placed above the zipper of the lower compartment. This caused occasional ripping of the bag. They removed the handles and riveted them below the zipper area. I would not have been able to have noticed if it hadn't specifically been shown and pointed out to me.

Compared it to my old beat up Diamond bag. Other than the Name/Graphics, I could not tell a difference.

Steve, Dani and I have never had to pay more than the $25.00 first checked bag cost. We do travel extensively.

Is this $175.00 over sized bag fee new with Delta? Since last spring?

Thanks,
Willie

Of course, you do, maybe not Delta? I guess enforcement can be discretionary, and you may have a frequent flyer status that supercedes, but here are the rules posted by Delta (and similar to others, I am told, although I fly 90% Delta coming from Atlanta); Oversize Baggage

One-way Fees for Oversized Baggage
The following charges apply if your checked bag exceeds our size limitations:
United States
Geographic Region Ticket Purchase Date Fees (Each Way)
Travel within/between United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands Any 175 USD/CAD/EUR* for bags measuring 63–80 inches (161-203 cm) in combined length, width, and height

300 USD/CAD/EUR* for bags measuring 81-115 inches (204-292 cm) in combined length, width, and height

Bags larger than 115 inches (292 cm) are not allowed

36 + 15 + 16= 67" combined.

Hmmmmmm

We fly Delta quite a bit to Salt Lake and other areas. I have seen them worry about golf club bags and ski/snowboard bags but only worried about the 50lbs weight restriction with our umpire gear bag.

Thanks for the heads up.
