About halfway to SA, right on 10, before LaGrange. (Yes, ZZTop fans, LaGrange is a real town!)

When I saw the thread title, I was thinking there might be a new mechanic or term for walking the line in the A slot.

Isn't that a former Sovjet-country in Europe?

In today's political climate, at times it feels as if it might be now!

Actually, My LaGrange has been here a while. Atlanta is a suburb

The use of the word "town" to apply to LaGrange is stretching it just a bit. "Watering hole" or "stop along the road" would be a more apt description.

I would call a place like Katy barely a town!

Like Sherman?

Seriously though, Katy is really just a suburb - no separation between Houston and Katy. Just a town? 100k population would beg to differ.

LaGrange? Other than the "nice-girls-ah!", yeah, it's a gas station and a stop light.

Katy proper has about what...17,000 people? The Katy area has around 250,000.

Katy "proper" includes much further east toward Houston (and slightly further north to Cypress's border) than it did in 2000. Interesting to know what the 2010 census will show. Katy magazine quoted the anticipated 100k number recently (as Katy proper, not the Katy area)

My 2005 Rand McNally road atlas shows Katy at 12,430.

Well this topic went off the rails. Wonder where they got that number - there's no official 2005 number, and that number's higher than the 2000 census.

Quote:
Katy, Texas is located on Interstate Highway 10 and U.S. Highway 90 at the intersection of Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties. The city has a total area of 27.6 km² (10.7 mi²). As of the 2000 U.S. Census, the city had a total population of 11,775. Experts in the area have the 2005 estimated population calculated at over 80,000 within a 3 mile radius and approximately 134,000 within a 5 mile radius. Projections for the next 5 years estimate the population to be over 100,000 within a 3 mile radius and approximately 170,000 within a 5 mile radius.
Katy Texas Demographic Information

The line has moved significantly since 2000.

Wow! Katy has grown! One day, it might actually make *gasp* city status. Actually, it has been a while since I have been in the Houston area, but I remember Katy as just a small little burg, even when compared to the micropolis of Sherman.
