Almost ran him.........but it was a State Tournament and I had never had any troubles with this guy (from our district).....I think he was just frustrated with his runner and vented at me......

I think "you do too!" would have been appropriate as well!

I once had a coach yell, “You suck!” at me during a particularly close play.

I calmly walked over to him and asked him, “How do you expect your players to respect themselves when you tell them that they suck.”

He was shocked and stammered, “Not them. You suck!”

“Oh,” I said with an exaggerated sense of discovery, “in that case your day is done, you can go home now.”

you guys need to pat each other on the back

Ignorance, arrogance, ego, stupidity, and the need to be noticed by injecting themselves into the spotlight is a dangerous scenario, especially for an idiot with a couple hours of “I AM IN CONTROL” attitude. These mannerisms destroyed the wcws. Thanks

Hey, look an idiot without a clue. Nor the courage to do a job for which she has no problem criticizing others.

Go figure.

Same kind of prick who would spit on a soldier.

Gotta admire him for one thing, though. He set a new record for lowest number of posts before getting ignored.

On the profile for ihateumpires, it says they have no friends yet. Hard to believe with insight as keen as that, huh? The good thing is, schmucks like this usually flame out pretty fast on here.

My two favorite coaches of the weekend:

1) after an IP, asked for time, asked permission to ask the BU about the IP, jogged from 3rd base dugout to BU coming in from A, said "I need to know more to correct that, what did she do?". After BU said it was a leap, coach said "thank you", then to pitcher "stay on the ground", thanked the PU and jogged back. All quietly.

2) Time running out, down 5 runs in a semi-final, coach hoping for another inning had batter strike out deliberately. Missed the time limit by 15 seconds, said "OK", then "line up girls". Earlier, quietly accepted an after-the-play enforcement of OBS that put an opponent on 3rd.

Don't understand something from original quote....HS tournament.....UIC....Was this a HS tournament thru a State Athletic Association or a travel tournament with HS age teams......Just couriuos. The reason I ask is that in Indiana we don't have UIC's for HS tournaments. We are contracted directly by the schools as individual umpires. Just wondering.

But I do ask IM why should not the UIC show the coach what is being called if indeed it is correct. I have UIC'd tournaments before and have heard complaints....quietly checked out the IP calls or calls in other instances and found my umpires to be correct. NOW....I have found umpires to be incorrect also, and that obvioulsy changes the approach. But if found to be true and you can quietly show the coach the problem and maybe get it corrected as the game or tournament continues.....Why not

And what happens if the pitcher does not repeat the infraction? What is the UIC going to show the coach? Meanwhile, it is possible the UIC has unwittingly shown up the umpire and given the coach that much more to whine about.

Quietly is one thing. This UIC openly stood behind the backstop WITH the coach in front of already excited fans. I constantly move around. I will sit for a while, get up walk around to different fields, watch from centerfield, watch from across the parking lot, watch from wherever my feet take me. Then I'll sit down for a while until I get up and do it all over again. I do not approach loud fields

Again, quietly and inconspicuous is one thing. This coach went off, tracked down the UIC. The coach wanted to whine and expected to embarrass the umpire in front the UIC. The coach was told why the pitcher was called illegal, what more can the UIC, who apparently wasn't in the vicinity, going to tell him?

Nah, if the coach comes for me, I'm probably going to ask him why he is out fo the team area during the game Then I would tell him/her that I will take a look, but at my leisure and I'm not going to instruct the umpire to not call a violation if s/he sees it.
