Has anyone had this happen to them. During a recent game I was the linesman on the side of a long time successful coach known for his ability to work the officials.
On each and every play in which his team was on offense, he would tell me whether the ball was coming to my side, the other side, or up the middle. I'm not sure why he did this. I'm sure I was the victim of some psychological manipulation, but I don't know how. Thoughts? |

There is a veteran coach in our area who is widely respected. He does the same thing to a new official working his first couple of varsity games. He does this so the official will know where the ball is going so that the official will make the correct call on penalties. He also does with veteran crews on onside kicks. He tells them ahead of time.He just wants the call to be right. He is not looking for any favors.

Actually, I appreciate it when the coaches let me know what they are doing. I'm not sure it actually helps me with my job, but I do like knowing where the play is going ... especially when we work with just 3.
