Fielder's Mask Question

FED rules

If a fielder throws her protective face mask down and the ball hits it, what do you have?

I have looked in the rules book, and can not find anything that covers this.

Please cite rule from the rules book you are using so I can share with others.

8-3f covers intentionally contacting a ball with detached defensive player equipment or uniform parts. Throwing down something worn makes any contact intentional in my book.

No different than if she decides to throw down a hat.

Thanks AtlUmpSteve. I found the rule you were citing at 8-4-3f. Penalty seems a little severe for the batted ball portion, if the girl just throws down her mask, but not at the ball. I will use this rule in the future as written.

Another twist, after reading the penalty for the rule, on a thrown ball would you award 2 bases if the mask location on the ground made the baserunner change her path or leap over it on her way to the next base? This is making me think to hard!
