Well, cops are just people. And these idiots, like many idiots, believe they can behave in any which way towards umpires.

I'm glad the PU had the gumption to report these people.

Being an ******* may be offensive, but I'm not screwing with someone's method of feeding and clothing their family.

Yeah, yeah, I know they are cops and public servants, but they may be good cops and not everyone's real life is the same as what is reflected on the field.

They shouldn't be disciplined by the PD. Let the league take care of it. If the officers are going to be disciplined then any coach, fan, player we eject should be disciplined by their employers as well!!!!

I disagree. With great power comes great responsibility. Cops are cops all the time, 24/7 where ever they go in the state. Their legal powers, duties, and obligations are always present.

They dont flip burgers, they are entrusted with a lot of special privileges and obligations.

With all their specially entrusted privileges, they must always uphold a standard. I have no problem holding them accountable.

Moreover, they are FULLY aware of this fact and accept it when they put on the badge. They werent drafted, they signed up for it.

So if an umpire on your crew takes off his uniform and sits with his partner in the parking lot after a game and is talking about the gorgeous xxx the office loudly enough for everyone to hear, you wouldn't want something said to him?

I sure as hell would.

As an umpire, I'm held to a higher standard than the rest of the people on the field. LEOs are held to an even higher standard when in public. Are some of the standards a little high? Maybe, but a line was clearly crossed by a mile.

Welcome to the United States of America where you even have the freedom to be an *******.

Rant on!

Personally, I'm sick and tired of the people in this country believing there is some God-given right to be vengeful toward those which we find offensive.

You don't like what this announcer says, he needs to lose his job; You don't like how a person paints their house, you sue them; A girl shares a Midol with her HS classmate, she needs to be expelled from school and denied an education; Someone has an accident and not only should they suffer the accident, but they should be put behind bars and never be allowed to work for any company again; A little boy kisses a little girl and he needs to register as a sex offender the rest of his life.

WHO PUT THESE PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF OUR LIVES?

Thousands and thousands of men and women did not give up their lives or parts of them so that the citizens of this country could be so smug and self-righteous.

Even in tragedy, the people of this country have developed a pattern: Mourn, throw money at it (after all, we know money solves everything), memorialize and then the biggest part, find somebody to blame for it. Someone must pay, right? Why must there must be someone to blame? Shall we just remove the words accident and mistake from the dictionary?

How can this country be so screwed up with so many perfect people?

Rant off!

To the extent the article can be believed, here is the only thing I can see that legitimately could have been responded to by the Sheriff's Department:

Quote:
... he argued with the public “while engaged in an activity that clearly identified him as a member of the Sheriff’s Office.”
... and that would only be a possible violation of Sheriff's Department policy on conduct of off-duty officers.

re: all the other busy-bodies who got involved... I agree with Mike's rant.

That is pretty vague, but I agree. If an issue is about the alleged "activity" which involved his association with the sheriff's office is all that should be addressed by that office.

Isn't it Robert E. Raiford who calls it The United States of the Easily Offended?

Everybody's looking for an angle or a quick buck.

Robert D., and it's the "United States of the Offended" which he speaks of. You've got to get that right if you live in NC.
