Would you allow this (ASA)?
Take a look at this picture. Ignore the cone-shape to it. Would you allow this on a bat? The ring is for the finger, and it's supposed to come off the bat when the bat is dropped. The ring stays on the finger of the batter after the bat is dropped.

Thats like the definition of illegal. How do we ignore the cone shape and answer this question?
Umm.. Yes if it wasnt that thing, I would allow it.

At what point is something meant to be permanently attached or securely taped?

No. Even though designed to be temporary, it is still attached to the bat during the swing. By being placed where it is, the item in question basically defeats the purpose of the required angle and protrusion of the knob which is set in the rules for the safety of those around the user.

And that's exactly what I thought. The cone shape alone makes it a "no-go" for ASA, and my opinion on the fact that it attaches in this non-permanent manner is that it's not approved by ASA.

Direct ProHitter Thumb Protector Adult | BaseballExpress.com obviously the rules arent written with knowledge of every product out on the market, if the product violates the spirit of the rule, then disallow it. The thing that gets me, as a player, is donuts arent allowed. According to the ASA umps in my league, there is a risk of a donut slipping off the BARREL when being swung, thus the injury risk is too high to be allowed. I dont know if anyones ever swung a bat with a donut on it, but you could take 1 million of the most violent cuts ever and that donut wont move an inch. |

I think he's referring to the weighted kind of donut you put on the bat while on deck taking warm-up swings.

That's not what the link showed...

I was thinking of the items that Bruce Wayne carried on his utility belt to restrain unruly criminals in Gotham City....

Definitely not ASA-approved.
