1 - ASA 7-4-D: A strike is called: "For each legally pitched ball swung at and missed by the batter." You can only swing once "at" a pitch. 2 - ASA 7-4-B: "...Any pitched ball that hits the ground or plate cannot be legally swung at by the batter. If the batter swings and misses prior to the ball hitting the ground or plate, it is a strike." As an umpire, you simply kill the play and call the strike. Something like, "Dead ball! Dead ball! Dave I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views! Screw green, it ain't easy being blue! I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again. |
