Slow Pitch never ceases to amaze me.

Bases loaded...batter walks. "Runner" from 3rd walks in and whild talking to someone in the stands misses the plate. I'm standing there with the catcher just waiting...sure enough, "Blue, doesn't he have to touch the plate?", "Yes as a matter of fact he does Mr. Catcher."

I'm amazed that this can actually happen even in a slow pitch game.

I'd say about 98% of the missed bases I see during the course of the season are never appealed. Even the dead obvious ones (like a male runner running almost directly to 2B in a coed game when he gets walked).

My only two high school softball games this Spring were rained out but I have had 3 missed HP's and MTD, Jr. has had 2 missed HP's in high school baseball this Spring and every time the catcher was clueless to the fact.

Exactly..
Not that I really give a sh1t as an umpire, but as a fan, I always like it when I see a catcher (or F3 for that matter) glancing back to see the touch when a runner is scoring or passing a base on a no brainer.

I used to play on a team that had a designated "watcher". Everyone in the infield was to watch the runners and bases while the "watcher" in the dugout watched the umpire and what the umpire watched.

We averaged about an out a game and negated quite a few runs including a few game winners.

And they wonder why umpire's eyes get real big when we see something like that.

I was the said designated "watcher" on a coed team, especially when I was the EH, and didn't have to worry about playing defense. When I was on defense, I still was the "watcher". My sharp eyes caught a female not touching 2nd on her way to 3rd when a guy walked. Appealed, and got the 3rd out.

The above situation, you should have seen the BU's eyes when he noticed I saw it. He knew he couldn't deny the appeal.

And all that in a Deaf national tournament. People couldn't believe how rules knowledgeable my team was, even if I was the one "coaching" or making the appeals!

On the subject of never ceasing to be amazed:

We had our first slow pitch game this past week. Even though we use the new rule change that starts batters with a 1-1 count, either our city league or the umpire for our games (not sure which) decided to adopt a courtesy foul with two strikes. So much for speeding up the game.

In other news, I play in an adult kickball league that uses modified ASA rules. For week 2, they put our orange safety bases for some reason (we did not have them for week 1). This is only the second time in my life I've been in a game involving the safety base and so my rules knowledge on it was a bit rusty as I unsuccessfully appealed a few batters touching the white base on hits to the outfield. Luckily, our slow pitch manager let me have his ASA rule book and when I read rule 8-5-2 (I think that's what it was), I was surprised to see there were more exceptions to the orange base rule than I realized. But at least now I won't make a fool out of myself again when I'm F3 for our kickball team.

In all of my basketball officiating crews and umpiring crews one official is designated the "watcher". His job is to identify all of the cute mommies in the stands, .

See now, that's using the wrong terminology; as officials, we are expected to report with exacting verbiage.

That's the "MILF spotter", not the "watcher".
