Looking at ASA 8.5...

8.5.I says kicked out of foul territory... so can't use that.
8.5.J says "carry", which didn't happen.
8.5.K says "intentionally," and let's assume it was accidental.

So... is there a case play that addresses this?

Would NFHS be different?
8.5.I is the rule I attempted to have changed last year to include a deflected fair ball, but those in the umpire's committee thought we are all real stupid and picked it apart. Because my change included a ball that "lands" in fair territory, they rejected the change and everyone followed suit. Their reason: When it says "lands", it could be misconstrued that it landed on top of a player's head!

I guess they do read some of the TWP we get!!!

The appropriate ruling is a GRD, two bases from the TOP. If deemed intentional, it is two from LBT at the time the ball was kicked.

BTW, you are incorrect on a ball in flight. if the ball hits the wall, then the fielder in the field of play and over the fence in fair territory, it is a GRD.
