I don't know about that. The pine cones I saw when I was down in NC last summer were some pretty darn mean looking pine cones! Nothing at all like the soft, safe, pacifist pine cones we have up here in Ohio.
Really! I went to pick up one of those suckers and it was as hard as a rock and covered with sharp spikes. You could barely hold one without cutting your fingers. I'd never seen anything like it and it kind of freaked me out. In my judgment...a North Carolina pine cone probably could kill a squirrel!
