The only part of professional baseball that hasnt been screwed up in some way is the umpires. You dont see the umpires threatening to go on strike even though they probably deserve more money. Im proud to be an umpire because of the fact that politics and money havent had an effect on them. I feel and so should any umpire at any level that its a special and important job no matter what the people around us think or do.

You must be hallucinating back to the days of Jocko Conlan, George Magurkurth, and Bill Klem.

Many apparently smart individuals were recently led down the primrose path and over the cliff by the Pied Piper (Richie Phillips) using the very incentives you are claiming Umpires don't respond to.

We Umpires are human beings, and instincts often influence our responses, as well as the players and owners.

Senior
