ASA Rule 8-5-H EFFECT Example

Could someone please provide me an example of when the bolded section above would apply? I am having a hard time thinking of one.

Only thing I can think of is if there is a portion of the fence that is situated less than the minimum distance required by Rule 2.

Example...part of the fence in an 18 Gold Championship play game is 190'. Prescribed distance is min 200 and max 225 according to Rule 2. Ball goes over the 190' fence.

Just a guess and can't see this ever come into play...obviously it has before or else it wouldn't be listed in the rules.

Possibly when you run into rarities like a field where a portion of the fence does not meet minimum requirements or there are impediments (cable/wire, tree branches) across the field, etc.

You've obviously never umpired on the JV field at Vintage High School in Napa, California.

Sure haven't. I used to do ASA fastpitch in Benicia & Vallejo and now work slowpitch here. Is this it?

That's the place. Over the fence down the lines is a two base award.
