Not talking about the manner in which to handle it, but the addressing the lines themselves.

Personally, I believe you get rid of any batter's box that is incorrect. That is because it gives the batter's some direction. Not only that, but it is much easier for the umpire to ignore something that is not there.

As far as the foul lines, I've never really seen lines in the outfield to be off by any significant amount. On the infield, though, the lines are often off somewhat. If it isn't a drastic amount, less than 6-8", the umpire often just tell the coaches they will use the lines on the field except right next to the base. I don't have a problem with that.

there is a quote a good friend of mine used and I am not sure if it applies to batters boxes but the judgement part of it makes sense... check it out.

"The plate hasn't moved in 120 years It hasn't changed today."

Thats how I feel about the batters boxes... if they have been dusted out its judgement ... I have seen enough correct boxes to visualize one. thats just my opinion.
