Base Runner Violation Flag?

I have seen Honigs, Ump-Attire, etc. start selling a red "Base Runner Violation" flag. What associations use this and under what base running violation circumstances would it be applicable?

Under Dixie Softball rules, when a runner leaves a base early the base umpire is supposed to drop a flag to indicate the violation. Instead of a dead ball situation, it is treated as a delayed dead ball situation. One of the many quirky rules that exist in Dixie. I have never actually seen the flag in use anywhere, though.

Little League baseball uses those flags, too.

In fact, there's some strange LL play in which a runner who leaves too soon simply "goes poof," and disappears from the basepaths—not out, not safe. Just "gone."

Dixie Youth Softball

Dixie Sweetees - 6u & Dixie Darlings - 8U

"If a base runner leaves her base before the ball is hit by the batter, the base umpire shall drop a signal flag to indicate the violation at the time it occurs. The defensive team shall have the privilege of having nullified any portion of the play that occurred on the violation."

Dixie Angels - 10U & Dixie Ponytails - 12U

"If a base runner leaves her base before (DIXIE ANGELS ONLY) the ball is hit by the batter, and (DIXIE PONYTAILS ONLY) the pitch reaches the batter, the base umpire shall drop a signal flag to indicate the violation at the time it occurs. The defensive team shall have the privilege of having nullified any portion of the play that occurred on the violation."

DYS is what my local rec league goes by and we use the flags although they don't have to be red and they don't have to be flags. Dropping something noticeable is the important thing.

Skahtboi is correct that it is a delayed dead ball and most of us use the DDB signal also.

This is from bluezebra back in 2000:

LL 7.13 "(c) when any base runner leaves the base before the pitched ball has reached the batter and the batter bunts or hits a ball within the infield, no run shall be allowed to score. If three runners were on the bases and the batter reaches first base safely, each runner shall advance to the base beyond the one they occupied at the start of the play, except the runner who occupied third base, which runner shall be removed from the base without a run being scored."

This is also referred to as the "How to Drive Scorekeepers Crazy Rule."

Under this rule, in theory at least, a team could send up batters indefinitely without scoring a run.
