As refreshing as Luau was, it was more of a flashback to five weeks of pro school at the Jim Evans Academy. Heel/Toe was one of the themes that was harped on during the twice and often three times a day cage work activities.

Taking youngest to the ortho this afternoon to have her knee looked at. HS game where she bruised it during the slide on a steal of 2nd. Rubber cleats. I was not at the scrimmage and she swears she does not know how she hurt it.

Accidents do happen.

They want to break their ankles with their spikes, thats on them.. my major complaint when this was coming out was about plate shoes

Nothing messes up a good plate shoe like a catcher with metal cleats.

When the tournies starts up, I wonder how many girls will show up with the HS metal spikes... I know I'll be watching for them.

In my experience with metal cleats, in mens FP and little ball, its not during any type of set position when it happens. I'm not sure what heel toe alignment distance mumbo jumbo would have to do with getting stepped on by a catcher with metal cleats. It doesnt make any sense.

The OP does not actually mention what the catcher did twice to almost ruin the umpire’s shoe/s. While these close calls could have been caused by other footwork, most of the times I've seen catchers "mess up" a plate shoe is when the catcher is adjusting his/her position before, during, or after a pitch. This is where adjusting your plate stance could come into effect.

It's kind of like telling a doctor, hey doc it hurts when I do this, and the doctor responding: well don't do that. If a catcher steps on you, adjust where you're standing.
