Tom - Thanks for posting this. Two of my daughters play in a rec league run by our church that has a "must slide on any close play" rule.

I have harped on the league director and the recreation director for a few years about this rule and the possible ramifications. The response I usually get is "It's safer to slide than have a collision between the fielder and the runner".

I'm going to forward the article to him and see what happens.....

by the way, I have made sure that my daughters know how to properly slide....
