Cool OK, let's all put in a "must slide" rule for safety reasons!

Check out this article.

More proof of just how litigious society has become.

I can see it now:

Are you players legally and properly equipped?
Is your equipment (ASA, NFHS, etc.) approved?
Do your players know how to slide properly?

This is such a 'blame the other guy' society.

How about "Does your mother know any NY lawyers?"

But, this is exactly why local leagues SHOULD NOT implement mandatory slide rules. The coaches rarely teach kids how to slide.

You have been around long enough to know when a topic does not need realism.
But if it did, right on point, more injuries from sliding than not.

All the more reason why your sample questions are as ridiculous as the lawsuit.

Amen to that. Pointless questions that do no good whatsoever.

My partner last night threw a woman out of a game when she didn't slide during a tagout at third (she also shoved the defensive player at the end of the play, which only added to the reason for her ejection, but was not the sole reason). No matter what I've tried to tell him, he insists that to NOT slide is considered both dangerous and unsportsmanlike.

I should send him the link to that lawsuit.

America adopted the "must sue" rule long ago.

I would, but I don't have his email address. Maybe I need to print it for him, but that might come across the wrong way.

Tom - Thanks for posting this. Two of my daughters play in a rec league run by our church that has a "must slide on any close play" rule.

I have harped on the league director and the recreation director for a few years about this rule and the possible ramifications. The response I usually get is "It's safer to slide than have a collision between the fielder and the runner".

I'm going to forward the article to him and see what happens.....

by the way, I have made sure that my daughters know how to properly slide....

Tell the LD that repeating that comment will not help when signing that big check to the injured player's insurance company when they come for their money.
