If she was out of the batter's box, then by rule the batter has interfered and she is out. I think that this is the way that most are reading the OP's OP. However, if the batter merely took a step back, and the umpire felt that she was trying in no way to interfere, then there would have been a no call. Also, OP said batter, not BR.
