Yeah, world society has been losing its soul with every passing year since the metric system was invented. Before that, systems of measurement were connected to the world of natural human experience. Now, it is just cold, abstract numbers... I mean, who the heck actually KNOWS what one ten-millionth part of the quadrant of the earth is, let alone the length of the path traveled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299,792,458 of a second?

I KNOW how far it is from the tip of my nose to my longest fingertip with my arm extended at the shoulder! Who gives a bleep if it is hard to use in calculations... that is what computers are for!

Heck....sounds like the "summer" weather in New Zealand is like the winter weather we have been having here in Texas. Guess that's why they play softball the year round here.

It's fall now in the Neth.'s... (5-12C). Butthursday it will be like spring: 17C!
But still all ice-skating lanes are open and I'm looking foreward for the Alternative Eleven City skating tour; 200km skating in one day.

yes, i'm missing the summer too, but in winter there are also fun sports to do: IndoorCup in Schiedam (nearby Rotterdam NL) in jan...

Although I must admit New Zealand could probabley fit in Texas .
Come to think of it we would fit in most of the 52 states.
At least we dont get hurricanes

Shoot, we have national parks bigger than Texas.

We feel so bad about relegating Texas to the second-largest state that we are considering splitting in half, which of course would make Texas the third-largest state.

Well thats not fair... in Alaska, national parks = "We have all this worthless ice covered land that no one wants to buy at any price, has no value, no one even wants to visit it.. so what should we do with it? National park!"

Hi Steve,

I don't know yet. A group dutch umpire's (incl me) is asked IF they are available to work there. It's off season now for us, most off us spare their free days for the summer to umpire in the winter. I've mailed the UIC that he can put me on the roster. Saturday we, the dutch TOP-umpire crew, will meet te close this year/season as allways in nov. Maybe then we will hear who's going to Schiedam...
If I'm not chosen to umpire, I know I will go watching!
So see you at the Cup!
