Home Plate

I'm new to this forum and I'm sure you had this question before byt here goes.
Batter hits the ball off home plate bouncing 5 to 6 feet high. Ball is fielded by the catcher behind home plate before it touches foul territory. Fair or Foul?

Fair or Foul is determined by where the ball first touches something or someone other than the ground, when it has not passed 1st or 3rd base. The catcher is the same as any other fielder except for starting in foul territory before the pitch. If the ball is over foul territory when first touched by a fielder, it is foul. The play you describe is no different from a rules standpoint than a ball that starts fair and rolls or flys foul before it is touched by a fielder.

I read this as saying the position of the ball in relation to the field is that it is over foul territory. If that is the case, it is a foul ball. If it is over fair territory when the catcher contacted the ball, it is a fair ball.

Position of the ball in relation to the field, not the position of the player is the determining factor.
