empty hand tag

I promise to make this the only baseball question I ask, but I don't want to get into the baseball forum. In MLB, is the fielder required to tag the runner with the hand holding the ball, like softball, or can he hold the ball in his bare hand and tag with the glove. I can't imagine that it's different, but I also can't imagine a MLB umpire missing it 10-15 feet away.

Same in ALL baseball and softball. Are you asking about the phantom tag on Cedeno in the Cubs' game a few days ago?

No, the one by Lopez of Orioles on a rundown back to 3rd of Ryan Howard (Phillies).
