"Double play" (of sorts)...
Subtitle of this post: Only at 12U!
Alternate subtitle: 12U coaches at it again! Tournament game yesterday. 12U ASA rules. R1 on 1B. Batter hits a not-too-high infield popup kind-of behind F1. Both F6 and F4 move over. F6 calls it. Meanwhile, R1 has taken a sizeable lead. Maybe you think you know where this is going. You are wrong. Ball touches F6's glove and rebounds up a little and away from F6. 1BC shouts "Go" to R1. F4 catches the ball, and sees R1 running toward 2B. PU calls OUT on the catch. F6 runs over to cover 2B. F4 throws to F6, who tags the base before R1 reaches. Meanwhile, BR has advanced to 1B and stopped. R1 sees the the throw beat her to 2B and turns and runs off the field and enters the dugout. PU repeats BR OUT on the catch. R1 OUT for abandoning her base and entering the dugout. 2 OUTs. As near as I could tell, EVERY coach on the field and in the dugout for BOTH teams thought BR was safe and R1 was out on the force.
