Defence conferences ... more than one???
Hi Folks,
Softball Canada, re Defence Conference(s) ... plural with pitchers???? Our rule book states "… one conference with EACH pitcher per inning OR only one conference with any other defensive player in the inning". Is this wording the same in your books? Literally, I rule this as follows per two scenarios: Scenario 1: Defence calls time. Has conference with F6 and F7 but not F1, for example. So, that’s the OR situation and so they cannot have a pitching conference at all in that inning. Scenario 2: Defence calls time. Has conference with 1st pitcher of inning. So, they cannot have a conference with any other fielder for the rest of that inning. BUT, if they change pitchers and she is struggling, they could call time and have a conference with that second pitcher in that same inning. If your wording is the same, am I correct? You actually can have more than one defensive conference in one inning as long as it is with different pitchers? Thanks in advance. bobbrix

Speaking ASA.
No. The defense is entitled to a total of three conferences in a seven inning game. On the fourth, the pitcher must be removed from that position for the remainder of the game. If the defense informs the umpire of a pitching change prior to entering the field, any conference does not count toward the total unless it exceeds the allowable time and delays the game.
