Hey Mac,
Last year our local rules for 10 and under allowed only one base when stealing. The intent was to make it less risky for the hind-catcher to throw the ball. They wanted to see more action from the catchers in that regard. I don't care for that one base rule, but it did cause a lot more attemps to throw out runners. Catchers were throwing every time a runner was stealing, even if the ball got away from the catcher and the runner was a step or two away for the base they were attempting to steal. From games that I watched I think it took something away from the game by removing the fear of further advancement of the runner should the ball get past the fielder. I don't know if they will keep that rule this year or not, but I hope they drop it. There's one other thing it did that I don't think is good for catchers, and that is getting them into a possible habit of throwing when it's too late to risk a throw. And it wasn't good for base running instruction either. ..Al
