So if a coach was told his player could not courtesy run, because she was listed on the starting line-up card then I'm sure the coach could kick up a nice fuss, maybe even file a protest, essentially for his own mistake, but nontheless a rule of the game was set aside when the substitute entered for the late "starter". So there we have a quite a conundrum to work out. I think the simple solution and the proper one would have been to accept an amendment to the starting line up.

The conundrum is where you got your rules knowledge. You are so far off base, it may not be worth continuing the discussion.

True, but in ASA the requirements are that they be on the line up card and that the line up card be given to the umpire. Once those are done, they are in the game. Once they are in the game, anyone taking their spot must be a legal substitute.

I've got the same question & response WMB had. There is no conundrum. The simple and proper and correct solution has already been stated - follow the rules. That player has participated and is already locked into a spot in the lineup. That's true for ASA, Fed, college - I don't know about the various alphabet soup organizations - and for the most part, don't care. If & when I work their games, I will know their rules & follow them.
