Batter Interference #2
I don't want to hijack the other BI thread, so I will post this here.
A couple years ago I saw this play a few times. R1 on third. Count on the batter is less than 3 balls and less than 2 strikes. Pitch gets by the catch. Batter drops the bat along the baseline as she steps back out of the way. This is directly on the baseline about 2 feet in front of the plate. The defensive coach wants interference called on the batter. I don't see this as interference because the bat, nor the action of the batter is interfering with the defenses ability to make a play. If anything it would be interfering with the R3 coming home as she has to avoid the bat that is laying in the baseline. What do you all think? |
