Banned Bats

Anyone know when a full list with photos will be available? Seems absurd it's taking so long. I'd like to get it laminated for my umps.

They're probably already lamenting the fact that they don't have them.

I enjoyed that way more than the normal human should have.

This is what he's talking about. It has said "Image coming soon" for those bats for a few weeks now.

Okay, I see where that is noted. However, when it comes down to it, the model # is what the umpire should be using to determine the bats' status, not the image and there are some models that are quite similar in design and color scheme.

Pick up the bat and look for the model number. Some are real small and a pain to find, but that is how you do your job.

In this instance, I'm siding with Esq Ump. It is silly to take so long to put the photos on. Yes we look for the serial number, but having a visual is good. There's no good reason for Easton to not provide ASA with images.

And there's also no good reason for ASA to not do a simple Google search by model number and figure out what the bats look like. Just a few mouse clicks and I found an SCN11BH pic:

Well, there is this little issue called "copyright." I suppose one could make a fair use argument, but I bet lawyers would prefer you get permission to use the pictures.

None of it makes a difference. The bat list AND RULE is based upon the model number and the model number only.

True. But it does help to have a visual training aid so that we can spot potential trouble bats right away.

When it comes to ASA and NFHS games, I don't check every single bat's model number when I do my bat checks. I only do that for NCAA play. Does anyone here do a model number check when you inspect bats? Or do you look for bats that look like those on the ASA cheat sheet?
