Coach Reply
Today, after a game and headed onto the field for the next game a coach told me I needed to "lighten up".
During the game he played in, there was a screamer down the third base line that I called Fair. After his team finally got the third out, as he was walking to the coaches box, he asked me about it. I told him that it crossed the bag and he wanted to talk about where the ball crossed. Clearly, he had a better angle from half way up the first base line in the dugout. After a very brief conversation that was never loud, he said "I disagree". I then said, "well, then we can agree to disagree". End of conversation. I am just curious how I am supposed to "lighten up" when I have the one thing that I am paid to possess on the field, my judgement, questioned. Am I supposed to laugh and make a joke? Just curious, but only lightly curious.

Why does the coach care about your weight?

You are too good an umpire to take this as insulting or degrading your judgment as opposed to a coach who needs to beg.

I did think about saying "My college assigners tell me the same thing", but it was well after the fact. LOL
