Over and back

Home team gets it into the box and then passes it out of the box and a long pole defects it into his offensive side of the field it is not over and back?

If a pass rolls toward midfield line and a defender tries to get it and it deflects into his offensive side of the field we blow it dead and call over and back?

Did the pass go over the mid-field line? If it did not, you do not have over-and-back. A defender can deflect the ball from his side, provided it had not crossed the line. That is considered a legal play.
