Referee - Who do you think of?

I think we can all agree that when someone says NFL Referee, Ed Hochuli is the first to comes to mind.

When you say NHL Referee who is it that comes to mind?

My guess would be Kerry Fraser.

Depends on your era:

Red Storey
Ray Scapinello
Bill McCreary

FWIW, Ray made what I call the best call in all the history of officiating.

What call was that?

IMO the best three man officiating crew I ever saw consisted of Referee Andy Van Hellemond, and Linesmen Ray Scapinello and Leon Stickle.

Was it the time he lost his whistle and tried to call offsides with no whistle, which negated a goal by the time he got the head ref...???

He's on the line, with the puck shot right by him. Could be icing. Two opponents racing to touch first, and whiz right by Ray. So he has to wait for them to skate by before he can chase. He gets on his horse and he actually catches up to the players, whose sticks are neck and neck like a wicked horse race. Ray can't see who's going to touch first, so he squats down like a catcher, to see through the players' legs, to see who touches first. Sure enough, it was icing. Raises his arm while squated, and then stands up all the while. It was kick ***.

I remember both Andy and Leon. Liked 'em both.
