SECTION 1 HELPING THE RUNNER
An offensive player shall not push, pull or lift the runner to assist his forward progress. PENALTY: Helping the runner (S44) 5 yards. So you are saying when he was pulled out of the tackle, that didn't assist his forward progress? ![]()

I would not call that for that action. I do not think this freed up anyone or was any more than a normal touching of players spun around. If that is called a penalty I can only imagine what else would be a call. It is our job to call the obvious, not call something that is in huge dispute. This would be very debatable at best.
Peace

The stats or rest of the game have nothing to do with this foul It should have been called and I said it when it happened.
Everyone there knew it should have been called but no one wants to pee on anyones parade at the State Finals.

Obviously this is a judgment as to whether the runner would have broken away on his own. But watch the clip again, focusing only on #12. What was his objective at the crucial moment? He certainly wasn't looking to block anyone.

Actually, the judgement is not what the runner would have done absent the illegal act, but rather whether there was an illegal act or not. Watching this on film, from this angle, I believe BJ has a rare point. Would I have the guts to call this on the field? Maybe not. Would I have seen the "obvious" had my angle been at field level, while running, while in traffic? Almost definitely not.

Again with the all-knowing. How in the world can you assert that you know what everyone else was thinking? Whoever "everyone else" is.

Well I bet half the people there would have agreed with the official had he called it!

Because assisting the runner is seldom called in NFL & NCAA, should it be ignored in NFHS as many do? My answer is NO!
