Halftime Forfeit

Injury-struck Seattle team with 11 players forfeits at halftime - Prep Rally - Highschool - Yahoo! Sports

Ever been involved in a beat-down forfeit or crazy ending like this?

It doesn't have to be a forfeit, the game could have just ended.

A forfeit changes the stats I do believe.

Rule 3-1
ART. 3 . . . A period or periods may be shortened in any emergency by agreement
of the opposing coaches and the referee. By mutual agreement of the
opposing coaches and the referee, any remaining period may be shortened at any
time or the game terminated.

I'm like JRut, if they want to quit, I'm all for it, but what if one coach wants to keep on playing?

Then he gets his forfeit but his kids lose the stats from the first half!

We had a game last season that could have ended at the half. The visitors were down 67-0 and had maybe 20 kids dressed to start but were down to 16. The HC had seen enough, the home HC and his 80+ players did not want to hear it. They wanted 12 minute quarters in the second half. The visitors began undressing for the ride home. The principal of the home school stepped in, we finished with 8 minute quarters and "creative" timing rules. In Ohio, we can't use a continuous clock but the ECO can forget to stop it when we signal. The game ended up 81-0.

I’m not sure why the stats would not count, according to 8-1 Point Values the half time score would stand.

8-1 … FORFEITED GAME: … Game score is: Offended Team: 1, Opponent: 0. But if offended team is ahead, the score stands.

Ok, I stand corrected, why would those two things be that far apart in the rules book?

So that poeple like yourself who aren't as familiar with the rules have to dig to find a ruling.

They do that as a challenge to OC's of 0-5 teams.

Michigan added a new 50-point rule this year. We have always had a running clock in the second half after 35 points but we stopped it for Timeouts, Injuries, Penalties, and Scores.
Now, at 50-points we only stop the clock for official timeouts for injuries.

The West Seattle Indians (not the "Wildcats" as the article states) are a 3A School for WIAA Classification standards.

To have only 11 people dressed after all the injuries, & other problems, means they must have a poor turnout for football.

Why did they not have some JV or C squad players suited up as back-ups? (Of course the playing quarters rule would come into effect of that happened)

Concerning the mascot change I listed, originally West Seattle High was known asd the Indians, however some of the Native American/Aboriginal/First Nations in/around Seattle complained by saying they were being portrayed in a negative light or found it offensive. Thanks to some rulings, the school changed from being the Indians to the Wildcats.

(Side note: There are those that graduated from West Seattle as Indians that still say they are Indians & not Wildcats & they are angered about the mascot change)
