Hurdling

Ok guys... this is the 1st time I've ever tried anything like this. The results are so-so. The quality of this video is decent, but not great. At any rate, I think you guys can get a pretty good idea of whats going on here. Its from my game last week. A T.V. game and we had hurdling, of all things. I'm the Referee in the clip. Hope you like it..

Did it take you guys long enough to complete the PAT?
All kidding aside, you guys nailed it. Good job on the video, too.
How did the coach take it?

You know, its funny, it did take a while to get the PAT over with. All in all, the game was only like 2hrs and 20 min. Which aint bad for a TV game. But the coach for the kicking team wanted to take the personal foul on the KICKOFF. I had to run over there and explain to him real quick why he couldn't do that. His only choices were to accept the penalty and re-try or decline the penalty altogether. He said, fine! but I don't want the yardage. The other coach was just simply pissed. He felt like we were penalizing his player for a great athletic play. And he's right. I'm not sure that I totally agree with this rule. But still, it is a rule. If you watch it again, listen real closely and you can hear him yelling in the background.

Didn't have to listen closely. Heard the offending player and coach quite clearly. Good microphones on that broadcast crew.

You guys called that play perfectly. Great job.

The howler monkeys initially thought that the flag was for roughing the snapper, and they were howling that he never touched him. Right coach, that makes it hurdling.

I'd prefer they take their time and get it right than rush through it and mess it up. Good job on getting it right.

I believe the rationale behind the rule can be summed up this way:
What would happen to the hurdler if the center had stood up mid-hurdle? He would have flipped the B player end-over-end where he could have possibly landed on his head. This is simply a safety rule.

I think that is part of it but I think it is also designed to protect the player being hurdled. There is a chance he could suffer a head or neck injury by being struck by the hurdlers foot or knee.

Nice job by the crew, nice microphone use by R.

Great job by U in keeping eyes on the players after the kick. When I assess, I often see Umpires turning round to see if the LJ and BJ are giving score signals.

As I always remind my crew, a PAT is the time when one team are real ****** about giving up 6 points and then another point.

The only thing I could see from the tape was that one of the guys under the posts is a maybe little eager to get the spare ball from the foot of the posts. I'd like to see him also keep eyes on players just for a coupla extra seconds.
