Score Card

A trivial question but the score card that I use in football games is from Dalco Athletic and theres a column on there I don't know what its for so hopefully ya'll can help me out.

Under the penalty section, it has space for the following:

Q - Quarter
Time - Time on clock when penalty occured
# - Number of player's jersey commiting the foul
Foul - Description of foul
Off - Check box provided in the event that the fould was on the offense
Def - Check box provided in the event that the fould was on the defense
Acc - Check box provided for accepted penalty
Dec - Check box provided for declined penalty
Os - Check box provided for offset penalty
With - ?

For the life of me, I cannot figure out what "with" means. Does anybody know?

Maybe "with" really means "What In The H*ll?" referring to the possibility you got to thinking what in the h*ll did I throw that flag for?

I don't know. My only guess would be that it is for "withdrawn" as in you picked up the flag and waived it off? That's kind of a stretch, but I can't think of what else it could be.

It probably means you record the position of another official who might have made the same call as you did. The card is for YOUR called fouls, not someone elses called fouls... So if you flagged a false start as the H along WITH the LJ, he could be recorded in the "with" column.

I don't know what VA requires, but you really do not need this kind of recorded detail at the high school level. Do what your state association says to do.

Information regarding coin toss results, number of timeouts and time taken, ball position at the end of the 1st and 3rd quarters and team scores is far more important at the NFHS level of officiating.

It is to record which other officials also called the foul. Had to fill that column in for for each foul I called when I worked EFAF games in Europe. Certainly for EFAF games, the post-game paperwork required this information as part of the penalty report. I can only assume that EFAF adopted this because major college conferences do it. I guess it helps with film review?

In our association, our game cards have the player's number, what the foul is, quarter, time, offense/defense, and accepted/declined. When we transfer the fouls to the game report, the official doing so has a column for which official(s) called the foul. If both the HL and LJ have an illegal formation, the foul will be listed on the card as called by both of them.

Thanks for the VA clarification VALJ. Fortunately, I don't have to get to that level of detail in the state I work in.

I know what the NCAA does with this information as I spent quite a few years as the H recording all that detailed information (actually my chart guy/gal did it).. but out of curiosity, just what does VA do with this information?
