Whistle From The Stands? FL/OK
I was on the road last night and listening to the game on the radio. Around the 10:45 mark in the 4th, Florida had a third down play deep in OK territory. The announcers said that the FL QB hesitated midway through the play like he heard a whistle. Both announcers said they thought they heard one too. Was anything said on the TV broadcast? Could you hear anything?

Yes, the TV guys said something. There was definitely was a sound from behind the Oklahoma team area. They shows the play again and you can hear what appears to be a whistle. It did cause the Florida player (the QB) as he heard it and started to ease up for a moment. I'm a little surprised that none of the officials on that sideline or even the Referee didn't hear anything.

They mentioned it but said it didn't sound like a referee's whistle.
I thought the Fox announcing crew was pretty weak. The color guy sounded like a 17-yr old kid. Buck didn't even know what down it was in a crucial goal line situation. Not a very strong crew for a National Championship game. I thought Ron Cherry did a good job as WH although his signaling and verbiage is tough for me to watch. He's a little too deliberate and slow for my taste. But, heck, he's there and I'm watching on TV so more power to him! In these last 2 games on TV, this one and OSU-TX, it seems there must be an hour's worth of commercials. I know there were 3 minutes of ads between quarters. Must be a pain for the players and coaches although the payoff for the games is $18 million dollars! |

I couldn't agree more! What was with the 2 fingers forming a "V" on the USC signal?

I only heard the one replay, it didn't even sound like a normal whistle, it sounded like someone whistleing with their fingers, usually not too much to worry about. I guess I did learn that tebow spent time in a Lepper colony, interesting sidenote, though not relevant at all to this conversation, just interesting.

It was someone whistling, not a real whistle.

I just realized that I won't have to go to church tomorrow. I will just be looking at a replay of the game. The Fox announcers elevated Tebow to God, or maybe he is the son of God and sits at the right hand of Coach K.
Ah, yes, deification is the primary role of an announcer. |

I also thought the crew did a good job. Quote:
![]() And what was with the split screen to show us how Oklahoma got the plays to Bradford? Oooohh, look, they don't huddle on offense! Nobody's done that before! |
