2008 Rule Changes Are Out...

http://www.nfhs.org/web/2008/02/2008...all_rules.aspx

First off, no mention of the A-11!!!

Second, the bigger one is the enforcement of fouls on TD's, try, and KO's. An extension of last year, just clarification.

Third, we now will have 10 coaches calling time outs, thanks to the new rule (a little tongue-in-cheek here)

Other thoughts...

REPLY: Well, at least they cleaned up the 8-2-2 fiasco that existed last year with states all over the country instituting their own 'versions' of it. They got the rules now in line with the intent of the original 2007 proposal. And, unless they changed their minds in committee, even dead ball fouls committed by the opponents of the scoring team after the TD but before the RFP for the try can also carry over to the kickoff.

As far as the 'designated' timeout coach, the intent was to expand the opportunities for a head coach to designate an (singular) assistant to call TOs if the head coach was in the press box for any reason. Let's see how the actual wording of the rule comes out. It could very well lead to the scenario you posted. Time will tell.

The more coaches that are allowed to call a TO, the worse my hearing gets!

Wisconsin has its own rule change this year. They are changing to the college overtime rule (1st and 10 from the 25) instead of the 10-yard overtime procedure.

Thankfully we still will not play overtime in freshman games.

I've had one OT game here in six seasons (since moving here from out-of-state). It was a JV game and went one OT period. We still cover the procedure during every pregame (and halftime if it feels we may be in that situation).

REPLY: we've been using the NCAA OT rule here in NJ from the beginning. I like it!
