bag out, flag in (NF)

Since I have been with my chapter our rules intertepreters (3 over 7 years) have said when an A player steps OOB on his own before COP bag where he steps out and flag where he comes in. I am wondering the purpose of the bag? To show everyone we saw him step out? Wouldn't the flag alone just be sufficient? Just wondering if this is what other people do in this situation? As far as I can tell, this spot is not important...

yes that is the purpose of the bag (some mechanics/levels use the hat instead of the bag), to signify the spot of the player going OOB. While I agree that the flag should be sufficient, I think the fact that you have a bag at the initial spot of the player going OOB really shows that you are "on it." I've had it once, and to be able to go to the coach and point to the bag (or hat in my case) was great. Didn't get much argument after that. Plus it looks good on film...

CANADIAN MECHANIC:

Spot of going OOB has zero significance. We don't mark that spot.
