Enforcement spot illegal touching

Please help I think illegal touching should be a loose ball foul 5yards and loss of down previous spot . Chart in book shows 5 yards loss of down spot of touching. I have looked for revisons to book and not found any reguarding this foul. Please help

Per NFHS, it depends on where the spot of illegal touching occurs. Since the rule change making the foul for an ineligible touching a pass beyond the neutral zone only an IT rather than OPI, you now have a "depends" on this foul.

The chart is wrong...IT downfield is during a loose ball play as mentioned in the OP.

I think that is what Mike was referring to. I should have clarified my answer more to include that the first time.

will it be a depends ? Looks like it still is a loose ball play if touching is beyond it would be previous spot and if behind it would be all but one.

Illegal touching is enforced under the all-but-one principal.

This came up in a conversation at our high school meeting this week. Someone pointed out the chart/table to me and it's clear they didn't update the table. I told the guy who asked..."think about it...you're not going to give the offense 30 (free) yards after a 35 yard pass to an ineligible player are you?" I then explained how a downfield pass to an ineligible player used to be OPI and illegal touching used to be behind the NZ as MRH stated.

He got the point right away.

Kentucky Baseball, you understand it correctly as per your last response.

NCAA: Illegal touching (the Rule 7 variety) is always enforced from the previous spot.
