Is the definition of intentional grounding the same in pro football and nfhs? if not, what is the difference?

Thanks

The NF does not have a tackle box. So you cannot go outside the tackles and be allowed to just throw the ball away. Also it does not matter if the ball goes beyond the LOS either.

Without getting into major detail, a passer cannot just dump the ball because they are going to lose yardage.

Peace

As a white hat it is in my eyes what is the quarterback intent. Dont be in a hurry to throw the flag. I ask myself is he just avoiding a sack? Who could catch the ball? Dont be afraid to throw the flag and then ask for help.

Very tough call because you need to keep eye on the quarterback after the release for roughing or any other possible foul. You may not follow the flight of the ball. Throw and then ask for help.

Communicate with your crew. Swallow your pride and pick it up if your crew finds a receiver in the vicinity.

Having a receiver in the area may or may not be a factor in this call either. If a receiver runs a bad route you should not penalize the passer. If the passer was just dumping the ball you still could call IG. You should also consider the ability of the passer. Maybe the passer just cannot throw very well. I have called IG when the passer clearly was dumping the ball and a receiver was in the area. Granted it was only one time, but that is why we get paid the big bucks.

Peace
